Glossary

Even though we do try to avoid using technical terminology across our websites, there maybe times when you may need further help to understand some of the features described on our cars. That's what this glossary is for. Search alphabetically.

 

Tail lamps – tinted

- A way of personalizing your car by using dark tints on the car's rear lights. Governed by European laws.
 

Top speed

- The maximum speed of a vehicle in km/hour
 

Towing capacity – braked

- The heaviest trailer (with its own braking capacity) the vehicle is rated to tow. Towing capacity is typically based on the vehicle weight plus a driver of 70kg. The weight of additional passengers and/or cargo should be deducted from the maximum trailer weight.
 

Towing capacity – unbraked

- Unbraked towing capacity is the towing capacity of a vehicle towing a trailer that does not have its own braking system.
 

Track

- Front track is the distance between the centre of the left front wheel and the center of the right front wheel. Rear track is the distance between the center of the left rear wheel and the center of the right rear wheel. They are not always the same.
 

Trailer hitch provision

- Depending on the model, you can order your car with trailer hitch provision which allows you to tow trailers and caravans.
 

Transmission 4 AT

- 4-speed Automatic Transmission. There is no need to change gears manually. As a consequence, there is no clutch. Just put the car into Drive.
 

Transmission 5 AT

- 5-speed Automatic Transmission. There is no need to change gears manually. As a consequence, there is no clutch. Just put the car into Drive.
 

Transmission 5 MT

- 5-speed Manual Transmission. Most cars sold in Europe have manual transmission. It means that the driver has to change gears using the clutch to dis-engage the engine while manually moving the shifter to engage a different gear.
 

Transmission 6 AT

- 6-speed Automatic Transmission. There is no need to change gears manually. As a consequence, there is no clutch. Just put the car into Drive.

- 6-speed Manual Transmission. Most cars sold in Europe have manual transmission. It means that the driver has to change gears using the clutch to dis-engage the engine while manually moving the shifter to engage a different gear.
 

Trip computer

- A computer with a multifunction display; supplies the driver with the trip information such as range, journey time, fuel consumption, average speed, accumulated trip miles / kilometers, time elapsed since last reset.
 

Tyre size front and rear

- The diameter of the wheel in inches (1 inch = appox 2.5cm) from where the inside edge of the tyre sits on the wheel. When you buy tyres, you have to use codes like "225/70R14". The first number in the code"225" represents the tyre width in millimeters. The "70" refers to aspect ratio), which is the height of the side wall expressed as a percentage of the nominal width. "R" stands for radial (tyre construction type). The final "14" is the rim size measured in inches. Front and rear tyre sizes can be different.
